Fung-Ctional’s story begins in the forests of Northern Ontario and with the people who know them best.

We are building relationships with local foragers who share our respect for the land, understand chaga’s natural environment and approach harvesting with care.

FORAGING WITH INTENTION

Our approach is guided by a simple principle: take only what is needed and leave the forest able to continue thriving.

Participating foragers are encouraged to:

LOCATE & MAP
Identify chaga growing on healthy birch trees and help us better understand where it naturally occurs.

HARVEST RESPONSIBLY
Use thoughtful harvesting practices and leave a portion of the chaga intact.

PROTECT THE FOREST
Avoid unnecessary damage to the host tree and respect the surrounding ecosystem.

BUILD LOCAL OPPORTUNITY
Help strengthen a Northern Ontario supply network rooted in knowledge, care and community.

We believe the future of forest-sourced ingredients should include the people and communities closest to them.

As Fung-Ctional grows, our goal is to create meaningful opportunities for local foragers while continuing to learn, improve and build a sourcing model based on long-term relationships rather than volume alone.
